When I was talking with Grandma Barbara (Nonni to the grandkids) about her relationship with her daughter Julie the quote above was the first thing she said. She described Julie as a mom first, incredibly confident, organized, thoughtful and loving. After working with and learning more about Barbara I now know where Julie gets some of her strength and resolve…
One of the first things Julie said about Nonni was that she was very intentional. This is a gift!! With life as busy as it is, it means so much to have other adults super active in our kids lives. I feel they need as much affirmation, encouragement and unconditional love as possible, right?!
When Julie was growing up, Barbara’s focus was on honesty and belief in yourself. She also encouraged independence and wanted her to know she could do and be anything she wanted. Barbara is a constant source of support in Julie’s life as well as that of her kids and family. When spending time with her grandkids Nonni tries to instill those same values in them as she wants the best for them as for her own children. I love that she also works to create great memories with each one of them individually. Thus the tea party time when the boys were gone.
Nonni described Isa as loving, confident, sensitive, intelligent and artistic. They are “sewing partners” and Isa trusts Nonni with the care of Lucy, who is a very important part of the family. They love to talk about anything and everything. Isa is very special to Barbara!
Julie loves her mom and depends upon their tight bond as inspiration for how she lives her life. She describes her mother as gentle, intentional and kind with quiet but powerful strength. Barbara said her resolve comes from love of her husband, family and prayer.
JT: How did your mom encourage you to develop your own individual strengths?
JT: How does being physically strong and active help you create the life you want with your own family and extended family?

JT: Describe what you love about your mom’s relationship with Isa:
JT: How has your relationship with your mom changed since having kids of your own?
The support Barbara gives Julie enables her to continue to be her best self on this motherhood journey. We all need help and encouragement along the way, that is for sure! Joyful, passionate and adventurous, Julie lives life to the fullest. Admittedly with the help of a very supportive grandma!! Thanks for letting me take a peek into your beautiful story and allowing me to share it with others.
